This week long comprehensive winter mountaineering course covers all of the basic skills required of the winter mountaineer. Although the concepts are similar, managing terrain in a deeper snow pack and on skis/board often requires a different approach from general mountaineering. Mountaineering is one of the most incredible ways to enjoy the mountains in winter. With snow covered approaches and rapid ski descents, it is easier to cover more ground and potentially summit more peaks than on a similar summer mountaineering trip.

CLIMBS!!! 'Introduction to Mountaineering' is a 'hands-on' course. Skills are explained, demonstrated in the field and then put into practice by participants during glacier crossings and peak ascents. Expect to be sharing the lead, solving route finding problems and fully involved in decision making.

You will find this course a lot easier with an off piste ski, which has a minimum width of 80 mm underneath your ski boot. They should also have a soft flex.
